What's happening at the NSADP.

NSADP Re-Launch

Re-launched with a bang!

The NSADP relaunch started with a bang, with the presentation from Marshall Diggs, of Growth Culture. With energy and enthusiasm, Marshall spoke to our leaders by first acknowledging and respecting our roles as Deputy, Associate and Assistant Principals, and the role we play in the work we do and in developing leaders in schools.

Marshall’s ideas in his presentation included, “We exist to help leaders create cultures where everyone can thrive”, and “If you’re not networking, you’re not working!” With an analogy to cycling, Marshall acknowledged that being at the front of a peloton is hard work, especially in a headwind (change). A peloton is defined as “two or more cyclists riding in sufficiently close proximity to be located either in one of two basic positions: (1) behind cyclists in zones of reduced air pressure, referred to as ‘drafting’, or (2) in non-drafting positions where air pressure is highest. We need leaders who go to the front and lead school culture and pedagogical change!

Change

Most people like change but it’s the pace of change that contributes to its success or demise. We need to make sure our language of change is very clear, Ask yourself, “Is the rig

ht thing at the wrong time right or wrong?”

It’s wrong. Timing is everything  – when you’re leading you need to know that there is a time and season for everything so plan carefully for change, especially in these challenging times. The pace will determine the appetite for change, so you need to know the rhythm of your school, be intuitive to the needs of the staff, and your strong culture will stand.

Use this model to plan for change:

This managing Complex Change graphic shows the result when an important component of leading change is missing. Ensure all sections of the model are in place for successful implementation of change.

7 things to consider:

  1. Trust matters – be trustworthy and trust in others
  2. Humility matters – get alongside and walk the talk
  3. Work ethic matters
  4. EQ matters (self awareness first, self regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills)
  5. Communication matters – look at the book Five Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace
  6. Priorities matter (if you have more than 5 priorities, none are a priority!)
  7. Authenticity matters
